Win or Lose – Why Award Entries Are Important for Your Business

If you’ve been following Volpa’s social media, you’ll know that award season is in full swing!

Volpa have been shortlisted for a record amount of industry and business awards this year. We’re proud to have already added more gold and silver accolades to our shelves in the office and picked up Small Business of the Year only this weekend at the Courier Business Awards.

The team love the buzz of a black-tie event: getting glammed up, boozed up and, hopefully, called up to receive an award!  We’re not just there for the sequins and sparkle, however. There’s a cunningly good strategy behind our entries and a lot of work that goes in to every submission.

Here are five reasons why we continually put Volpa, and our clients, forward to win awards

Raise your business profile

Awards can help get your business in the spotlight for all the right reasons. Reputable awards generate lots of publicity across local, national, industry press and social media. From shortlist to ceremony, the process can take several weeks, or even months, so share your involvement using all of the assets available. By connecting with other businesses involved and sharing the news through your own channels, you can make the most of the exposure to promote your business. Winning a business award can open doors to new contacts and earn you respect from your industry peers. We’ve heard from two potential new clients already this week (Monday) as a direct result of picking up our latest award on Friday!

Evaluate your business

Putting together an award application can help you look at your business from a different perspective. What are your strengths? What makes you stand out from the competition? Look at what you are already doing well and choose an award which will add value to the work you specialise in. Having the evidence to back up your success is important and going through an application process may highlight gaps in the data you should be collecting. Didn’t win? If you use the experience to consider what you could be doing better and change processes as a result, that could be more valuable than winning the award itself.

Opportunity for networking

Business awards are often judged by successful business owners and being shortlisted can give you the opportunity to discuss your business with leaders in the industry. Additionally, awards attract similar businesses and are an excellent opportunity to network and forge new relationships – especially when everyone’s relaxed and enjoying the party atmosphere.

Increase your influence

An award win is a fantastic endorsement for your business. It increases your credibility and positions you as an expert within your industry. Winning a business award puts you ahead of your competition and gives suppliers and customers increased confidence when dealing with you. If you’re seeking investment, demonstrating that you’ve received recognition as the best or most promising firm in your field can really help.

Reward your team and attract top talent

Awards recognise the hard work and achievements of your employees and gives you a chance to celebrate their contribution. Adding to the trophy cabinet is a real boost to staff morale and can improve motivation. Business awards will also help attract the best people to your company – everyone wants to be on an award-winning team!
