Water’s Edge, the new Grade A commercial office development at Dundee’s waterfront by Tayforth Properties, has won a coveted award from the Dundee Civic Trust, celebrating the development’s outstanding contribution to the urban environment.
At the awards ceremony held at the Dalhousie Building at the University of Dundee, Tayforth Properties’ Chris van der Kuyl collected the award from the Dundee Civic Trust, alongside Managing Director Stewart Clark, Ric Russell of architects and interior designers Nicoll Russell Studios and Craig Lyon, Managing Director of Lyon Building Services.
The Dundee Civic Trust is a charitable trust which aims to preserve and promote the urban heritage of Dundee and its neighbourhood, whilst encouraging the best standards of design in architecture and town planning for new developments. The award is a public acknowledgement by the trust of a building which has made a positive contribution to its urban environment.
This year, alongside Water’s Edge, two other iconic Dundee buildings, the V&A Dundee and the new railway station, were honoured with the award. Water’s Edge was acknowledged to be an impressive example of a building which has been brought back to life, whilst remaining sympathetic to its original design and incorporating many of the old features of what was “Shed 25”, one of Dundee’s original transit sheds. The judges also acknowledged the efforts made to make the building as energy efficient as possible.
Officially launched on 26 June 2019, Water’s Edge is a completely reimagined approach to leased office space. The vision of the co-owners, Scottish tech entrepreneurs Chris van der Kuyl and Paddy Burns, is for Water’s Edge to be a place to inspire, connect and energise 21st Century business innovators, entrepreneurs and freelancers. Now a thriving place of work, with only one unit remaining, Water’s Edge is home to a wide variety of tenants, from sectors including games, renewables and social enterprises.
