Dundee Heritage Trust is looking to attract new volunteers for both Discovery Point and Verdant Works and is holding a Volunteer Recruitment Day at Verdant Works on Saturday 28 September, 10 am until 12 noon. Potential volunteers will get to learn about both museums, the work of the Trust and hear about the many different volunteering roles available, both public facing and behind the scenes.
The assistance of volunteers is central to the work of the Trust and the services it provides. There are a variety of roles available across lots of different areas of the museums including guiding, helping maintain RRS Discovery, operating historic jute machinery, delivering tours and workshops to schools, working with the Audience Engagement Officer to run a vibrant programme of public events and helping the Curator document and care for the collections.
Gill Poulter, Heritage & Exhibitions Director for Dundee Heritage Trust said “The reasons people volunteer are many and varied – from wanting to make new friends, help their community, feel useful, gain confidence or gather valuable work experience and skills for their career. We welcome people whatever their motivation and no experience is necessary as full support and training will be given. So we are hoping for a good turnout on Saturday and look forward to expanding our wonderful volunteer team.”
Deirdre Robertson, Chief Executive Officer of Dundee Heritage Trust said ‘Volunteers have always played a vital role in the customer experience at Discovery Point and Verdant Works, giving our visitors a warm reception and sharing their enthusiasm and knowledge for Dundee’s history. With both museums now busier, we need to recruit some more volunteer guides but also expand our volunteering opportunities into new and exciting areas. We would be very grateful to anyone who is able to give up their time to help the Trust.”
