Two students at Perth College UHI, part of the University of the Highlands and Islands, have been awarded exclusive scholarships with Volpa, one of Scotland’s top independent marketing agencies.
The Perth and Dundee based award winning agency selected former teacher and HND business student Florence Wilkie, who is retraining to become a marketing professional, for its PR and Marketing Scholarship. HND Business student Cristina Espinosa Fontes has been selected for its Digital Scholarship.
The second year that the full-service agency has offered Scholarships through Perth College UHI, Florence and Cristina will benefit from 40 hours of invaluable work experience or contact time at the agency. They will be under the direct supervision of Kim Bauchope, Head of Digital and Fraser Kirk, Head of Publicity at Volpa. Both students will also be gifted £500 from the agency, which can be used in any way which supports their studies. The scholarship period ends in May 2019.
Perth College UHI’s Scholarship programme is designed to help students who are committed to their studies and are keen to develop their skills to reach their full potential. Donations are made by entrepreneurial businesses and individuals willing to invest in Scotland’s talent and economic future.
Tricia Fox, Managing Director at Volpa, commented: “We are looking forward to welcoming Florence and Cristina to the team. Whilst both are at different stages of their working life, with Florence choosing a career change and Cristina breaking into the marketing industry and the working world for the first time, both have a real excitement and a clear desire to learn as much as they can in their time with us. Both understand that digital skills are key for any business going forward. I’ve no doubt the experience and employability skills they gain in their time with us will give them a significant advantage when applying for jobs in the industry.”
Fiona Leslie, Development and Alumni Relations Manager at Perth College UHI, said: “The scholarship scheme is a great way for Perth College UHI to work in partnership with local businesses helping to develop a talented workforce for the future. Giving the students the opportunity to encounter a real working environment and gain knowledge and experience in the workplace is a real advantage for them. We are extremely grateful to Volpa for their generous support.”
