The Enchanted Forest Community Trust, the organisers of the multi-award winning sound and light show in Pitlochry, Perthshire, has been accredited by the Living Wage Foundation, in partnership with the Poverty Alliance, as a Living Wage employer.
The Living Wage accreditation awards companies and organisations which have made a commitment to offering a wage higher than the national average. Every year the Enchanted Forest Community Trust employs up to 70 people in a variety of roles to make The Enchanted Forest happen. These include customer service, stewards and transport staff, all of whom are vital to the smooth running of the event every year.
The Living Wage commitment will see all employees of The Enchanted Forest Community Trust, aged 18 years and above, regardless of whether they are permanent employees or third-party contractors and suppliers, receive a minimum hourly wage of £8.75. This is significantly higher than the national minimum wage of £7.38 for under 25s and the national living wage of £7.83 for over 25s.
With over 4,300 Living Wage employers in the UK, the Living Wage is an hourly rate set independently and updated annually. It is calculated according to the basic cost of living using the ‘Minimum Income Standard’ for the UK. Decisions about what to include in this standard are set by the public. It is a social consensus about what people need to make ends meet.
Zoë Squair, Creative Producer of The Enchanted Forest, said: “We employ a significant amount of people on a seasonal basis every year to make the Enchanted Forest the success that it is. With 73,000 visitors to the show in 2017, quite simply without these short-term employees The Enchanted Forest just wouldn’t happen. As a result, in line with our community principles, we are delighted to announce we are now a Living Wage accredited employer.
“We want to produce an event which excels itself year on year and this is only possible with quality staff who feel they are valued by their employer. The accreditation reflects our desire to demonstrate this to employees and potential employees. Recruitment for our 2018 show has now begun and all interested parties should refer to our website for the positions available.”
