Crieff is looking forward to welcoming hundreds of fun-loving visitors this week as the picturesque Perthshire town kicks off its first comedy festival on Thursday.
Crieff Comedy Festival – Before The Fringe (www.beforethefringe.com) is a brand-new event featuring almost 60 comedy acts, across three venues (Crieff Golf Club, Square Bar, Tower Bar) over three nights, from Thursday, July 26 until Saturday, July 28.
As well as showcasing the best international acts (Tom Stade, Tanyalee Davis) and the cream of the UK comedy circuit, the event features preview shows from top comedians (Mark Nelson, Raymond Mearns, Bruce Fummey, Obie, Lynn Ruth Miller) ahead of their Edinburgh Fringe Shows in August.
Plus there’s musical comedy from Ruth E Cockburn, freestyle comedy rap from MC Hammersmith AND a special children’s comedy club on Saturday afternoon featuring Jeannie Jones (aka Dr Jones Funny Bones).
The event is the latest in a series of exciting and innovative projects being progressed by Crieff Succeeds BID, an organisation dedicated to supporting the local business community and encouraging greater town centre footfall.
Supported by VisitScotland match-funding, Crieff Succeeds BID is also running a high-profile marketing campaign to promote and develop Crieff as an attractive visitor destination (www.visitcrieff.scot) and recently launched The Crieff Card to boost local businesses and ensure money stays within the town’s economy.
Neil Combe, Manager of Crieff Succeeds BID, said: “We’ve created the festival to give people something new to enjoy and another great reason to come and enjoy summer evenings in Crieff town centre.
“I’d like to thank the team for all the hard work and effort they’ve put in to make Crieff Comedy Festival – Before The Fringe a reality. It’s a hugely exciting project and just one of the larger scale events Crieff BID has planned to raise awareness of our town and support and promote local business. We want to bring visitors to Crieff so everyone benefits.
“I want Crieff Comedy Festival – Before The Fringe to be more than a one-off. I want it to be a regular event bringing the community together through comedy and giving people a weekend they’ll never forget.”
Crieff Comedy Festival compère Jim McCreadie added: “Crieff Comedy Festival – Before The Fringe is a little bit different in that as well as featuring many world class acts our audience will get the chance to see ‘Fringe Previews’ from many of our comedians as they present new material ahead of their Edinburgh Festival Fringe shows. It’s a unique opportunity to see these guys in an extremely relaxed and intimate environment prior to the Edinburgh Festival Fringe getting underway.
“As well as exceptional performers, we will have great food and drink, children’s shows and a friendly vibe that will combine to create the best festival weekend of the summer.”
Tickets are still available for Crieff Comedy Festival at www.beforethefringe.com or on the doors on the night.
