First of its kind mass participation Highland Games Obstacle Race launched for 2020

Those looking to get moving and experience something unique in 2020 need look no further.A first of its kind mass participation challenge event that fuses traditional Scottish Highland Games with an epic 10km obstacle course has been unveiled by organisers.

The action-packed event called McBrave Games promises participants a uniquely Scottish experience with events such as tug o war, tossing the caber, putting the shot, the hill race, weechin the welly and a Highland fling. Alongside the McBrave Games take on the traditional, there will be a Scottish twist on challenges along the 10km obstacle course to test participants.Participants can take on the challenge as a solo entrant or enter as a clan of four with colleagues or friends to battle it out to become the laddie or lassie of McBrave Games.

Co-founders, Jo Dytch and Andrew Hastings are confident the creativity and innovation behind the event will encourage entrants to try something new in 2020.Jo and Andrew bring with them over 25 years’ combined experienced in the mass participation space on large scale events such as Race for Life, Tough Mudder and the 54 mile Cateran Yomp.Co-founder Jo Dytch, a senior member of the Cancer Research UK events team played the lead role in developing Pretty Muddy, under the hugely successful Race for Life Brand. Jo oversaw the successful delivery of the event, which has seen one million women and children take part in the 5km obstacle mud run since 2013.

Commenting on the inspiration behind the event, Jo says: “Scotland is an inspiring and magical place. Bringing the highland games to everyone and making it accessible seems only right. We are hugely excited by the concept, and part of the success in events is trusting your gut feel; we love the idea and hope others will too. We are providing the opportunity to try something rooted in Scotland but only the lucky (and strong!) few can currently participate. We have had such fun so far and we are only a few months in so it’s exciting to think what the future could hold.”

Andrew Hastings, who also owns True Grit Events and Run2Events, brings a wealth of experience in the industry from Charity Challenge events, sportives, urban 10ks, triathlons and multi day ultra-challenges. In 2019 Andrew successfully delivered a sell-out Cateran Yomp, Scotland’s largest charity challenge event, raising over £3.5 million for charity.

Andrew says: “As two dedicated and enthusiastic event professionals, Jo and I have been discussing many ideas that would allow us to use our experience and creativity together. The idea of combining an epic obstacle race with the Highland Games really got us excited. It has taken us the best part of a year to get the event from a concept ready to go.

“We are both big believers in innovation and the McBrave Games is a new idea that takes the familiar and gives it a unique twist.”McBrave GamesFor more information on McBrave Games please visit: https://mcbravegames.com/
